Two of my very talented friends, Joe Karg, Chris Bivins, and Elio Guevara have put together a Kickstarter campaign to help promote their web comic, “Cantankerous.” Check out below for the official press release.

On November 16, 2012 Atlantan and Archer illustrator Joe Karg and his partners Chris Bivins and Elio Guevara will go live with their first comics-related Kickstarter for the Cantankerous web comic and a limited-edition hardcover book, The Art of Cantankerous.

Karg and his team have spent the last year developing and producing a brand-new epic of visual storytelling that is now available and can be read for free on their website: cantankerouscomic.com

Cantankerous follows a 78-year-old man named Tennessee Ruckus on a whirlwind adventure to replace the body of a decapitated aquatic god.  Imbued with the incredible new powers by a magical turn-of-the-century deep sea diver’s suit, Tennessee faces the challenges of life’s decline like no other old codger ever has.

In order to document the fabulous illustrative work that makes Cantankerous its own world, the creative team has gathered all of its best drawings and designs into a limited-edition 100-page hardcover book (9 inches x12 inches).

In addition to all the wonderful drawings, the Cantankerous team has reached out to industry professionals from the worlds of animated feature film and television, video gaming, illustration, and fine art in order to include in the book a discussion about designing imaginary worlds.  Each of the following artists shares his unique perspective regarding the challenges of design within his field.

Ryan Prows:  Academy Award-winning director of Narcocorrido

Marcelo Vignali:  Production designer of Hotel Transylvania

Jorge Gonzalez:  Illustrator for The New Yorker magazine, creator of Dear Patagonia

Claudio Acciari:  Animator for The Road to El Dorado, illustrator for Totoro Forest Project

Bryan Wynia:  Character artist for God of War: Ascension, Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, and the forthcoming Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

Michael Brown:  Fine artist represented by Gallery Nucleus, Sarah Bain Gallery, and Roq La Rue Gallery

Neal Holman and Chad Hurd:  Art directors for Archer

Supporters can visit any of the social media outlets listed below and/or the Cantankerous website from November 16 through December 16 in order to link to Kickstarter and give support.  We appreciate the generosity of everyone who chooses to give financial support, but beyond that crucial level we ask you to share links to the project with your friends so that more people can see what we’re doing.

Grab your deep sea diver suits and get ready to welcome a little bit of Tennessee Ruckus, the incomparable Sharkboxer, onto your bookshelf.
