March is over so I thought I’d give an update to how “Slip Drive” has performed. I’ve looked up how many units between US and UK have sold for each month. I put it up at the very end of January and moved 4 units. February moved 55 and this past month was 61. That’s a grand total of 120, for those that don’t want to be bothered calculating it.
What I found interesting was that each week during March I moved between 6 to 8 units per week. This is all without any kind of advertising on my part. I’ve just let “Slip Drive” sit there and do its thing. If I had tried to push it, I wonder what kind of numbers I would have seen then.
Ultimately my goal with this short story is not to make money. It was to learn the ropes of Amazon and to start getting my name out there. As of right now, once my KDP Select enrollment is done I will be making it free to download via Smashwords.
I’m very grateful to those that have bought it. And I hope no one will be upset once it becomes free. But if my goal is to get my name out to a wider audience, I’m going to have to make this available for free indefinitely. And until Amazon makes that a viable option, I will using Smashwords.
In the meantime, priority one is my novel. Only 6 more chapters to go before it is finished. And at my current word count per chapter, that means another 20,000~ words. At my current rate I’ve been able to finish 2 chapters a week. Pretty exciting to know that by the end of this month I’ll be done with my first novel.
That alone is something to be excited about, right? Write.
